Beginning as a pilot scheme in September 2019, free hot meals are provided to every pupil in Barnashrone NS. When a pupil enrols in the school, they are provided with a unique code which allows them to order from a delicious range of hot meals each day. Parents simply download the App and enter their code to sign up.
The company that we are currently partnered with is The Lunch Bag.
A free hot meal is provided but if families wish, they can also purchase a snack from the company which will then be delivered to the school each day. If you have any difficulty using the App you can contact The Lunch Bag directly but you can always talk to us here in the school if you need assistance.
The scheme is provided by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection and facilitated by the school daily to ensure that each child receives a nutritious meal in school everyday.
A nutritious hot lunch will be provided in school daily free of charge.
You can select your choice through an App for which you will get a password.
Each child is expected to bring in a healthy snack every day.
On Friday, one small treat is allowed in addition to the usual healthy snack.
Snacks should consist of nutritious and healthy food such as sandwiches/wraps/rolls, crackers, fruit, raw vegetables, yoghurt etc. We would ask parents to include a spoon in their child’s lunchboxes if their child is bringing a yogurt.
Children have to eat their lunch before going out to play and are given sufficient time to do so.
We ask children to bring home leftovers and wrappers, so that you can see what is being eaten and to minimise rubbish in line with our Green Schools Project.
Children will be asked to keep any food which does not comply with the Healthy Lunch Policy for consumption after school.
It is beneficial to your child’s health and learning not to consume sweets/fizzy drinks etc. in the morning before school.
The pupil’s ability to concentrate and learn is directly affected by diet. Good eating habits in childhood will last them the rest of their lives.
Children are required to have spill proof bottles and should always have sufficient drinks to last them for the day.
Make sure your child is able to manage the opening and closing of their own lunchboxes and that their lunch is separate to their school books, stationery etc. in a lunch bag.
NOT ALLOWED:
Chewing gum and fizzy drinks are not allowed in the school grounds at any time.
